When you are on ubuntu12.04 alpha report a bug with apport(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs) about it and install synaptic additional(newstart my help to get connected).

Try to get a other network port on, wireless or cable. What ever you have not tried(newstring after attaching when it is not recognized at once).

When you are on other versions of Ubuntu.. in principle do the same. You could also try to made an distribution update.

You could also try to get your software handeld with apt-get on terminal. For this -> google is your friend. Beware, when you do not know about this will be a long way.

I think I found something... I did all the updates I could and some of them weren't downloaded. All of the errors come from a different part of the Ubuntu archives. Here is its URL :

http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates/...
("fr" is because I'm French)

Do you think it can be the reason of the errors ?

Aha,
good investigation. I could unfortunally not answer in french(have learned something in school, but to long ago-remember nothing), so you have to translate some of the following system vocabularies.

Than your problem should be more or less easy to fix.

In moment I have no nativ ubuntu installed(all with very different software), but in a nativ installation you should find a program that is called in english: "software package sources" ; try it with "soft" in ubuntu dash it should show that one icon right beside the software center icon.

When you start this you will first look on a menu that should have in the middle the entry"Server for French/Frances".
When you click on it there should be an entry main-server(the ubuntu main servers).
Switch to it.
Than reload the package list from that server.
When it is really one of the .fr servers that doing should handle your problems.
When the main servers are to slow you have also the opportunity to switch to the servers of a other county, but there is sometimes the problem that they do not mirror all language packs.

A trivial solution is to file just wait until the mirrors .fr synced correctly with the main servers(which will surely happend the next monday) or to file a bug thats points on server problems.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason for the problems could be down servers/maintanance/ broken connection for that internet segment which causes to slow trnsmission rates..., many possibilities.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope that helps. Write when it is other.

Don't worry about the English, I understand it very well, but I may make some mistakes when I write my messages... ^^

I easily found what you are talking about, because I've seen it already while looking for solutions by myself. Right now, the package list is getting updated, but I saw in the details that the packages I couldn't get earlier were downloaded.

So, if I understand correctly, I must try different mirrors from that list in the preferences so I may avoid server bugs or maintenances... But, it is possible that the package I download doesn't own the French pack. English isn't a problem in my case, but how can I get the French pack if it exists, but isn't included in my soft ? Can I download it from LauchPad and add it to my software ?

Whatever, thanks a lot for your precise and fast answers ! :)

Well, I tried to download all the updates I saw but I got another error, whiwh says something like that :

"Need the installation of unchecked packages."

I checked the Security menu but found nothing useful... Do you have an idea ?

Well, there may occure many problems on downloading updates. Sorry richard I could not guide you trough all what may happen wrong. A common internet search with such prases like : google -> "linux ubuntu Need the installation of unchecked packages"
("linux" at the beginning on google search started a special search function on there)

helps also on such problems.

That is beside your original question:

"am connected to the Internet (my web browser works normally) but the Software Center can't download anything and tells me to check my connexion... What may I do ?"

, which I answered on, because it sounds like an serious kernel bug(wireless driver), or a bug of d-bus.

Nothing for bad and greetings from me.

Please close this here as solved.

Can you help with this problem?
