How to install .tar.bz2 softwares on ubuntu

when i download any softwares/applications for ubuntu mostly it come with .tar.bz2 or .tar.gz extension instead of .deb
i have download many file like monodevelop midori chromium etc but it doesn't install,
help what i can do...

.tar.bz2 / .tar.bz are usually tarballs that contain the source code for the respective application , you normally need to compile these to run them. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompilingSoftware)
