Location of downloaded / installed packages / files

Asked by Cecilia Farías

I've already downloaded a couple of files from the Ubuntu Software Center (I've got Ubuntu 11.10), but whenever I download I can't find the files. In the Software Center appears that I've got the file, but I don't know where they are located. I'd like to put some of them in my Desktop and in the Side- bar.

Thanks for the help and happy 2012!

It's a very long list... But the most importan packages I'd like to see are:

* aMSN
* Opera
* Pidgin Internet Messenger
* Different Games (Mahjong, Solitaire, etc)
* Déjà Dup Backup Tool

I'm a begginer with Ubuntu, and I'd like to know if I can set a folder to see these downloaded packages.

Thanks a lot for your help Marco!

You should be able to access these programs by simply typing their name into the "dash". You can then drag the program's icon into the sidebar.

The dash can be accessed by clicking on the ubuntu icon on the left sidebar, or by pressing the "meta" (windows) key on your keyboard.

Just search for it's in the dash and drag and drop them to the launcher.
