This is not an Internet problem as the package will download using SUDO in terminal. Thought possible that firestarter was blocking but uninstalled and made no difference. Don't know if this is a bug or not but using report a problem only has one option.

Changed server to MALTA which seems to have solved the problem. Do not really understand the problem or the solution but it may be that a new install hangs on the UK server or something about the package is a bug in the server choice drop down box????
