Need help on install printer drivers or computer games

Asked by Kirsty

I'm new to Ubuntu, and i'm trying to install my daughters computer games and they won't install.

Also i've boughten 2 different HP printers and none of those will install either.
Is there no software that works with Ubuntu?

It also won't auto run the disks either!

HELP!

bought my daughter this computer and she hasn't been able to use it yet!

What are the makes and models of the printers and how do they connect to the PC?

it sounds like you're trying to install windoze games and printer drivers on linux. it won't work. if you have an hp printer, you can just plug it in and it'll work. if you have other printers, you'll need to download a linux driver. as actionparsnip asked, what make and model are your printers.

if you want to install games, you'll have to install the program called wine first. it's available in the software center.

1. Ubuntu is not windows and you shouldn't expect windows software to run on Ubuntu. Just as you wouldn't expect a VCR to play a Blueray. There is a package called Wine that helps but its not fool proof. if you tell us what these games are we may be able to advise if these can be made to run under Wine and how to get it working. Alternatively we may be able to tell you how to get similar games written for Linux many of which are free.

2. The CD that comes with a printer is almost always for windows and no use for Linux HP printers are usually very easy to set up in Ubuntu and most other printers can be got to work as well. Though not all as not every manufacturer supports Linux

Please tell us exactly which printer you have (make and model) and how you intend to connect i.e Wired LAN, Wireless LAN, USB etc.

We will then try to assist you.

Can you help with this problem?
