can't see any software in UBUNTU SOFTWARE CENTER.

I am using ubuntu 9.10 last 2 days ago I format my pc and re-install ubuntu 9.10 . But after install this Iface lots of problen in my ubuntu.
Problems:
1. can't see any software in UBUNTU SOFTWARE CENTER.
2. Can't install opera
3. Can't install any new program in my PC.

How I fix this problem please reply me.

sudo apt-get update; lsb_release -a

If you are really using 9.10 then it is normal not to get updates or even indtall software,becausse 9.10 is not supported any more.To be sure do what actionparsnip asked you to do.Type in terminal

lsb_release -a

and it is really 9.10 then it is better to install recent release witch is 11.10.
