how to install music file plugins and flash plug in

Asked by Dave Nash

well starting today my windows quit working (except on safe mode. blue screen of death argh!!!) but the ubuntu witch was installed over a week ago starting working (kept getting the i915 did not install) but previously would not. now that all have left is ubuntu im trying to watch videos and listen to music through them. but i have plug in issues with both. im not real linux savy yet so i don't know where to run the commands for these plug ins. i have a hp pavilion dv7 laptop that i am running. cant watch videos due to a flash plug in and cant listen to audio files due to andn mp3 plug in. can any one help with these plug ins. or is there any non-video tutorials or other how to's that can get a dumb ass like me around this opperating system.

Run:

sudo apt-get -y install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Should install what you need.

It would help to know which version of Ubuntu, you have installed. Also how installed, side by side, inside windows wubi, or another method. How did you load, did you use live CD? Also did you install Ubuntu restricted extras from Ubundu Software Center? What video player or CD player are you using. Many to select in Ubuntu Software Center.

actionparsnip that worked for the flash player. thank you. can you reccomend anything for the music issue. im trying to play mjusic through my host file downloads folder (mp3) and also from a c.d. and it keeps telling me i need a plug-in for both gmusic and parole.

One likely solution is to run two commands from the command line:
% sudo apt-get install gmusicbrowser
% sudo apt-get install parole

Did you type the percent '%' into the terminal. Leave that out -- it's meant to indicate a command line prompt.

Oh, hey what do you know, i found that if you just change the audio settings in gmusic from gstreamer to mplayer, you're done. My music started playing anyways :) Hope this helps !

The password is hidden for secutiry reasons, just type it and press enter when the terminal asks for it.

Can you help with this problem?
