Hi please do this:
1. Open a terminal by hitting CTRL + ALT + T
2. Insert this command and run it:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

3. Try to watch a video on YouTube or play music.

Hello James!

1. Install programms.
There are many possibilities to install programs on Ubuntu.

Easiest way is to use Ubuntu Software-Center. Ubuntu Software Center is a utility for installing, purchasing, and removing software in Ubuntu.

To install programs you can also use Synaptic. You can install, remove, configure, or upgrade software packages, browse, sort and search the list of available software packages, manage repositories, or upgrade the whole system.

2. Media player.
You can get media player from Ubuntu Software-Center, for example Banshee. Banshee is default player in Ubuntu 11.04.

3. Flash Video

If you use web browser, you will be asked to istall flash-plugins.
