----SOS---Gfortran

Hello everyone.

I have a question giving me a big trouble today. Please help me if you have met such similar conditions.

Yesterday, I have successfully installed the Gfortran and GrADS from the Ubuntu Software Center. But, today, the Ubuntu Software Center failed to find the software of Gfortran and GrADS, I have tried about 12 hours.

SOS again.

Why you have to find them again in the ubuntu software center? Have you changed repository?

picsoho,

The software centre is not for running programs, it is for *installing* programs (and removing).

Once installed, you have to access the program separately. In the case of gfortran, this is done only through the terminal.

Try opening the dash, then running the terminal program and typing

gfortran --version

then see what happens. If you get something like "command not found", it is not installed. If you get the version number it is installed.

The grads package does not appear to contain a desktop file, so you may also need to launch it from the command line (terminal) too. After following the above instructions, in the terminal type:

grads

and see how you get on.

Thanks for your message. The reason why I reinstalled the software is that I have to install these software in different computers. So I have to download the software several times.

I have successfully installed both of the software in my platform yesterday. I just changed the option named as Software Sources (maybe) in the SOFTWARE CENTER as Server for China. Then everything is OK.
