Just perform the installation from the Terminal (For Wine 1.2.xx: Stable version):

sudo apt-get install wine

If you want the latest version:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.3

HTH.

go to Applications & click on "Ubuntu Software Center" Once it is open, type "wine" in the search box and click install. That's all there is to it. Don't enter the quotes I've included just to show what to do. Much easier than the terminal & command line if you're a beginner.

As an addendum, click on the "Wine Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer (dummy package)". That installs V1.2.3 The other wine package is the beta release, stick with the stable release.
