need help bad cant open softwear center at all

yes this is Curtis Young again i have try ed everything that was told to me on how to fix the software center on my laptop and it has not worked( sudo apt-get update) was the first one i used and the error code was (Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. ) it still gives me this error code has it been fixed or is there no hope for getting this fixed if so please email me @ <email address hidden> or if not i will have to go back to windows this problem is holding me back from moving forward
