OpenSource DataBase

Asked by BabyGirlsVet

Does anyone know where I can find a good opensource database?
I'm looking into starting my own buisness, & I need something to help me keep records of equipment, stock, employees, as well as pay checks. If I have to install more than one, that's fine w/me. I just need something reliable. If not opensource, the best cheapest is fine too.

MySQL or PostgreSQL? Both are open-source and reliable.

BabyGirlsVet:

Databases are typically used as "back-end" work tools. They are complicated and need you to learn query languages to extract useful information from them, and then build user interfaces to this (eg using web pages).

Depending upon the business, you may want something like a "Point of Sale" program (Think software cash register), or an accounting suite. These typically are typically the interfaces that are built to talk to the database system.

Thank you, Mycae! I am looking at those now, & I like what I see. Greatly appreciated.
