I cannot install any software from the Ubuntu software center. How can I solve this problem?

Asked by Steven D. Shown

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and everytime I try to install anything from the Ubuntu software center, I get a warning window in the middle of the screen telling me that it has to install packages from untrusted sources. When I tell it to accept it, the window goes away and the software center says it's installing, then it stops and goes right back to saying install in the box without ever actually installing the package. Then if I click on install again, the same thing happens. I can never get the install to take place. How can I correct this situation?

Had you tried using the Terminal to install the application? At least you can see the exact install processes happening. You can also copy & post any errors incurred so we know exactly whats wrong with the installation, if there are any.

HTH.

Yes, I can use the terminal, and there are not any errors incurred. However, after trying that I ran the update manager and no updates that appeared to be related to this issue appeared, but there were 4 updates to install, so I installed them. Now the software center is working as it should. Strange problem! At least it's solved-for now. Thank you for your time.
