How upgrade Firefox 3 to firefox 4 with archive Manager

Asked by black-beret

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 (through choice) which is installed with Firefox 3.6, but I want to upgrade to Firefox 4.
I have downloaded the latest version which gave me the option to open with Archive Manager. This I have done but can anyone please explain to this Newbie where I should extract the files to etc?

What you have downloaded is probably source code, or a specific binary. These are intended for developers, or package maintainers rather than end users.

What you probably should do is instead subscribe to a so-called "Personal Package archive", where someone compiles this to generate the appropriate installers for your ubuntu version.
