Ubuntu 11.04 software centre not working

Okay, so I'm a total newbie to Linux in general and Ubuntu in particular. But I have a problem: everytime I try to install something (such as Dropbox or even just update Adobe flash player), I click the "install" button in software centre but nothing happens :/ any ideas?

what happens if you open a terminal and type

sudo apt-get upgrade

?

Okay, sorry everyone but somehow it either fixed itself or I fixed it by accident. All I need to figure out now if what I did haha. But thanks for your advice! :)
