The easiest way to install acrocread is to install ubuntu-restricted-extras. This will install a bunch of useful stuff acroread, flash, MP3 capability ...

Connect to the Internet, open a Terminal and issue the command: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

The restricted extras won't install acrobat reader. If you grab the .bin file, you can run:

chmod +x ./filename.bin; sudo ./filename.bin

You will need to change directory to the one you downloaded the file to. The file is an executable Linux app but just needs marking as executable. Accepting defaults is fine. The application will not self update so you will need to remove the old version and install a new version if and when you decide to upgrade the app.
