is there anti-virus protection services and if so what are they i need to protect my pc

You can use free ClamAV (repositories), Avast (http://www.avast.com/linux-home-edition) or AVG (http://free.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-alf) for example. But if you install only programs from the official repositories and don't run every script on the web, you don't need a antivirus program on Ubuntu.
