Improper Softwer title in Ubuntu software catalogue

Asked by Milan Glavaski

As a devoted user and promoter of Ubuntu in educational services, I would like to file a complaint about improper software catalogue title in Ubuntu Software Center. I stumbled upon:

PornView

an image and movie viewer/manager with thumbnail previews. Additional features includes thumbnail caching, directory tree views, adjustable zoom, and fullscreen view. Slideshows allow for unattended presentation of images for hands-free viewing. Pornview is written using GTK+.

Please let me know how Ubuntu team reviews the software titles for the Ubuntu SW Catalogu considering the increased popularity of Ubuntu in schools and public education?

Thanks

Milan Glavaski

Just because an app has a "bad name" doesn't mean it is any less valuable with many abilities which users may want. The project which the app is taken is named by those on the project, not Ubuntu. Apps are chosen on merit and features, not name

I have to agree with the OP, the title is inappropriate and should be considered when adding software to the catalog.

I don't know how else to raise a complaint at the inclusion of software in the catalogue with an inappropriate title and icon. Both of these appeared on my screen when clicking on the applications launcher in 11.04. In a non-private setting this is both potentially embarrassing and damaging should others see this and not realise it is an automatic option to download an image program.

Is there anyway to block an application from appearing? Are there any guidelines on what is appropriate when naming & designing icons?

I can see the tongue-in-cheek humour in this title, but I can also see a lot of white male privilege & nsfw issues.

Can you help with this problem?
