best video converter for Ubuntu 10.10?

Asked by Derrick Matthews

okay so I was using handbrake and today I guess they decided that Handbrake will no longer be available for i386 computers so what is the absolute best video converter out there is there anything comparable to xilisoft ultimate converter, allowing me to convert in many different formats and also allowing me to edit aspect ratio, bitrate, and allowing me to crop the video, and split long videos , and also allowing me to convert vid to audio

Mostly I just use ffmpeg on the command line...

You can try tools like avidemux2 ; but I wouldn't call it "best".

Currently the HandBrake releases page (https://edge.launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/handbrake-releases/+packages) includes both amd64 and i386 packages for Karmic, Lucid, Maveric and Natty. I hope that in short time there will be packages for Oneiric.

HandBrake is really a great tool and I'd like to see it in the official Ubuntu repository.

Can you help with this problem?
