Installing Skype on Ubuntu

Asked by Ali Sinan TUZUN

I've downloaded Skype for Linux from its website (specifically : the version Ubuntu 8.10+ 32-bit). How can I install the .deb file?

I use Ubuntu 10.10

If you enable the partner repo in software centre, you can then install it like you do ANY otherapp. The deb file isn't needed as it is already hosted on the partner repo servers.

If you still want to use the deb you have (which will not get updated unless you enable the servers above), simply double click the file. I thought that was massively intuitive and would have been the automatic beavhiour of anyone....no offence

Sorry I don't have much experience with Ubuntu. I didn't understand partner repo, either I couldn't find where it is.

If you have used Windows, you'd doubleclick the setup.exe wouldn't you? Smae deal

If you launch softare centre and click Edit -> Software Sources -> Other software tab, you can tick the box to enable it then click close, the packages will refresh with the new server added and you can search for skype and install there or if you want you can run:

sudo apt-get install skype

after you CLOSE the software centre.

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package skype is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package skype has no installation candidate" SOS PLEASE..................

Did you enable the partner repo?
