Can Not Download From Ubuntu Software Center

When I try to install anything from the Ubuntu Software Center on my computer I get the following message.

Previous installation hasn't been completed
The installation could have failed because of an error in the corresponding software package or it was cancelled in an unfriendly way. You have to repair this before you can install or remove any further software.

I do not know how to fix this problem. If you can help please do. Thank you in advance.

I've encountered this problem from time to time. Usually I've been presented with the option to repair it there and then, and that's it. Do you not receive this option? Is there anything else displayed when you get this message?
