sudo sed -i 's/jaunty/lucid/g' /etc/apt/sources.list && sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude dist-upgrade

This will get rid of the Jaunty repos you seem to have for some reason, may help the situation.

did that and thanks...update time is significantly reduced. Still having the same problem with "Software Center" and synaptic. Can't load PPAs or even find them and the Sources file has been checked and rechecked.

Can you expand on 'load PPAs'. Do you want to add a PPA?

Seems to have it but it failed building. Could keep your eye on it to see when it gets made.

This will give gyachi:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:venerix/blug; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install gyachi

that seems to have loaded it but the build is failing somewhere .... the error message is "failed to execute child process."gyachi" (No such file or directory)"

Because you didn't copy the text as one. You thought gyachi was a seperate command but its all ONE. So the command you now need is:

sudo apt-get install gyachi

And it will install.

Copy and paste to the terminal, don'y type it as I have given the exact command to reduce human error. You can even use software centre if you want

copy and pasted, removed previous install and tried it again. Still same result. Gives error message that there is no file named Ghyachi
