what software is needed to upload camcorder recording

I am unable to upload camcorder recording onto computer.
What software is needed to do this function?
This is a Sony mini dv camcorder, model dcr-trv19

You will most probably need a firewire connection with this as Linux (Ubuntu) does not have USB drivers for most of the Camcorders. Then you will need to install a software like Kino or Pitivi and use it to record the video from the camcorder to your PC. You can find these software under "Ubuntu Software Center"

did you get your camera connected ok?
I'm also having trouble, with the same camera!
I have both USB and firewire connection, and have tried Kino and PiTiVi, both with no joy!
Kino says something about no 1394 kernal ?!!

Can you help with this problem?
