problem installing softwares in Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by shuvadeepghosh

I have been using Ubuntu 8.10 for last 2 years and have been using vlc too quite smoothly. But recently when I am trying to install vlc or to upgrade movie player it is not working. The process comes to a dead end every time with the message : repository changed. How to fix this ?

Intrepid has been dead since 30th April 2010.

I suggest you upgrade to Karmic at least. Intrepid is no longer supported, nor will you get any updates because there simply are no repositorys for it anymore

I have tried Karmic, but failed to connect to the internet. I use a wired internet service with a user id and a password. In Intrepid I simply save the id & the password and set it as DSL connection. It works. In Karmic the process does not work. Every time I click DSL connection a notice appears : disconnected.

Can you help with this problem?
