Installed Ubuntu successfully now unable to install any of the following software, Java, Vuze, iTunes, and ect. tried many times from web browser and still nothing.

Been trying for a week now after installing Ubuntu 8.10, to install Java, for told that it was needed to install other app's to my computer for exp. i Tunes, Vuze, and anything amongst that category, really need a detailed walk through because i've tried from several web sites and managed to accomplish nothing...

To install java please refer to Medibuntu https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
Then you can install the ubuntu-restricted-extras package.

As for iTunes, you can use the installed Rhythmbox Music Manager, or Banshee.
Vuze is a bittorrent client, and already installed on Ubuntu is Transmission bittorrent client.

 applications = software center and in the window at the top right of the centers page type in what you want to install . example - java = list pops up pick --- open java runtime6 and install
