watching streaming tv...especially sports, which software works?

I'm having trouble getting any streamed sports and some tv sites to work with a non-windows operating system...please help me find the right software to download and/or the right websites to visit so it will work with ubuntu.

Also, i'm obviously a moron cuz everything i download i am unable to open, cuz i see no option to unzip the download to run it....there is no "run" option anywhere on here that i can find....again, please help...

p2p4u and myp2p, one requires streamtorrent, which i downloaded but still cant get to work....the other says it will only run on linux with sopcast, which i downloaded but still can't get to work.....the nbc football game won't run on anything but windows or mac, and i can't get netflix to stream on here either...
