Ubuntu Software Centre

Asked by Thiago

I would like to know if it's possible to remove the Ubuntu Software Centre from a Xubuntu 10.04 installation. I don't use graphical softwares to install programs and it's using space in my HDD. When i have tried to remove it from my system it said that the Xubuntu-Desktop must be removed too. I don't want to remove Xubuntu-Desktop, only Software Centre.

You can remove xubuntu-desktop. It is a hollow metapackage so will remove only that package and not the packages it pulls in.

If space is an issue then remove openoffice and install gnumeric and abiword, or use googledocs etc.

You should also remove vinagre / vino if you do not use VNC. You can also remove ubuntu-docs to get 250Mb back.

In ubuntu 10.4 when I go to Ubuntu software centre and then tick to install exaile or streamtuner these seem to install OK but they are not in ( application - sound and video) I checked in Edit menus and the icon is not there either to tick, how can I get this to show in the sound and video app

Can you help with this problem?
