go to Add/Remove, In show label, select all available application, then in search box search for pidigin software, you will get pidigin software listed below. select to install application. In 8.04 pidigin software is installed by default.

where is add/remove and show label friend. As I sai I am new I just seen ubuntu.

    sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pidgin
