Skype on Ubuntu 12.10 do not support Chinese input

Asked by Dr. K. F. Lee

I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 and so far so good. The ibus and Chinese input work basically okay but on-restart, it seem need to specifically re-start the keyboard input methods rather than automatic as I would expect.

The Chinese input work alright with LibreOffice and even on terminal input command line but somehow it just would not
work in the dialog of Skype (4.0.0.8) that was installed using apt-get.

Hi ,

Skype is a closed source program of Microsoft. Therefore maybe this is not a problem with Ubuntu.

You can verify this by boot from another Linux distro and see if Chinese - Skype works there.

Thanks

I had experience with Linuxmint and it worked perfectly okay; it use D-bus with Pinyin. The Ubuntu seem use iBus with Pinyin, so I wonder what are the difference?

Just wonder what would be the solution if Microsoft start to get nasty and put all kind of thing in Linux Skype? The Skype for Window XP in Asia is virtually not usable. It is run by Tom.com, an organization with no social consensus whatsoever. When you install Skype here, it always redirect you to the version from Tom.com which would pop up news with half naked woman very now and then, plus endless advertisement. You American is lucky to have some social rules and code of moral conduct but in Asia, money talk nothing else - no law no moral.

The Linux version of Skype is at least in sane state!
