Installing Skype 4

Asked by Ross Ashley

Skype have released Skype 4 for Linux, but the only way to install it in *buntu 12.04 seems to be completely uninstalling the current version (2.2.0.35) and then installing from their downloaded deb. I'd rather do it in the normal Ubuntu manner, from the repos, to be sure of keeping my webcam etcetera.. any idea when it will be updated in the Ubuntu repos?

Its the same package. Skype is proprietary, so the only people who can make the deb file is Skype. Using the repos to install the deb will not make it install any differently. SO you will be 'keeping your webcam'

You could report a bug and get the repo updated.

Can you help with this problem?
