Unable to Unistall Skype
I recently downloaded Skype 4 and tried to install it on Ubuntu 12.04 (I have the earlier version 2.2.0.35 installed). When I tried to install the newer version using Software Centre it failed. This seemed to be that it could not uninstall the earlier version. I then tried to manually uninstall the earlier version using Software Centre and although that reported that it was uninstalled it was not and was still installed and working.
Can anyone help me to destroy the earlier version of Skype so that I can install v4?
regards.

Perfect, that fixes everything:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get --reinstall install skype
sudo apt-get --purge remove skype
sudo apt-get --purge autoremove
sudo dpkg -i /home/john/
sudo apt-get -f install
I hate skype.
