Webcam provides black screen on skype, Ubuntu 11.04

Asked by memetali

I can no way get an image from camera on skype using Ubuntu 11.04(Unity). In Skype preferences >Video Settings the camera is recognized as USB Camera (046d:08dd)(/dev/video0) but when I test it or try to use it in a conversation all I get a is black blank image.

I tried to run skype with the comman LD__PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype with libv4l-0 installed nothing changed.

The same camera is working well with gtalk or cheese.

Any recommendations?

Does it show up ok in cheese? Skype is a poor test of a webcam as it is riddled with little stupid issues.

What is output of #lsusb?Does it show web cam as a Microdia device like"Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0c45:62f1 Microdia"Sometimes a usb scanner concurrently installed may create a conflict with Camera function. If Ubuntu is 64bits Command LD__PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype is OK but for 32 bit it has to be LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype(Substitute Lib for Lib32) Pl try,Good Luck, inform result.
