Skype not working.

Asked by John Rogers

I cannot get the microphone to work with SKYPE while using UBUNTU 10.10. I have tried many of the suggestions that I have come across on the forums etc without success.
I understand that UBUNTU 10.10 requires PulseAudio for Skype but KUBUNTU 10.10 does not. Can UBUNTU and KUBUNTU run in parallel on the same PC? If so how can they be installed as I cannot get KUBUNTU to install onto my PC that already has UBUNTU?
Regards.

Additional information.
Have further investigated Skype help and looked at "Sound" (via System -> Preferences -> Sound).
The microphone on my headset is not showing. Is it possible to add this? It is a standard jack plug type.
If not, does the system only recognise USB microphones?
Regards.

Well I'm going to deal with the skype problem soon. Here's your answer to the other question - Yes its possible to run kubuntu and ubuntu in parallel on same computer.
You can opt for 3 methods -
1. Install kubuntu as a separate OS and multi-boot
2. Install kubuntu packages (KDE) on top of ubuntu
3. Install ubuntu packages (GNOME) on top of kubuntu
The first way takes a lot of extra HDD space. I recommend the 2nd way.
For 2nd method install this package - "Kubuntu Plasma Desktop system"
