Skype crashes after startup

Hello,
Recently my skype stopped working.
As soon as i opend it it just disappeared..crashed is the word i guess.
So i tries uninstalling
and then reinstalling it...but it still happend.
so i tried an older version i tried skype 2.0,,it opend and i could even look at the contacts, but as soon as i started chatting with a person it crashed again.
I have no idea what the problem is..
What should I do?

Okay..I fixed a repository which was causing problems...and then it asked to do a partial upgrade....i am using ubuntu 10.04 by the way.
But thanks alot!

I had another question....in Ailrus,, it has this option to Purge PPAs...what exactly does that do?...and is it a good thing or a bad thing?
