11.04 classic view. Skype will not attach to the notification panel

Asked by leosandhu

I recently upgraded to 11.04. Unity was too loud for my taste so I switched to classic view.

Now I am finding that when active, I cannot get skype to appear on the task panel (previously a skype icon lived just next to the clock at top-right of screen). This means that if I accidentally tidy my desktop and close the window which contains contact/history I do not see notifications that are waiting for me. Also I need to exit the programme and relaunch in order to reopen the contacts window once it is closed.

I've looked in skype settings but everything there seems correct, what am I missing, or what has changed since 10.10 ?

ok, I right clicked on an empty area of the top panel and clicked "Add to panel" Then I clicked to add "Notification Area" I didn't see it appear at first and had clicked 3 times - which gave me 3 of those little dotty blocks, I then right click and removed each of the 3 notification areas I had created and made a new one. At this point, (having deleted 3 and created a 4th) skype notifier icon did appear. Success for me, would be nice to know what had caused this but I will close this Question and hope the outcome helps another.
