can I send a fax through skype

In a perfect world I would be able to pipe efax | skype. perhaps somebody's figured a work-around for this imperfect world?

voice and fax data require different protocols.

as i understand it, voice through skype is poor compared to landlines, so trying to fax via skype, if minimally successful, will lead to great disappointment.

however, there are various internet faxing programs, most of them are commercial.

Ah. The old problem of technological divergence. IE sending an audio signal to an old old 300 baud fax *might* work. After a quick check it looks like those are more faxing services than internet fax programs -- at least there won't be a platform issue.
