start video skype aborts

Asked by James Cookson

Have Ubuntu 10.10 and latest Skype for Linux, 32 bit version. On test webcam works fine but on video call when I select Start my Video Skype aborts. I have to start Skype again and sign back in. Have tried 2 different makes of webcam with the same result. Have looked through settings for Skype all appears OK. Any ideas?

Have you checked the Skype web cam compatibility list? I have an old webcam that works with cheese, but not Skype. Just bought a $7 web cam that works on Skype but not cheese. Try checking the options and start the video when the call starts, maybe that will work, since the test works.

Thanks for the replies, both webcams I have are supposed to be compatible. Both work on Cheese and on Skype test, it is only when I select "Start my video" When the problem starts, I can see thevideo of the person I am calling. When I select the start my video, my video is briefly shown before skype switches off.
Have looked on the support pages of Skype and Ubuntu but not found my problem listed or maybe I am asking the question incorrectly.
