Running 10.10 did morning upgrades and skype wil not run now

Asked by Heather Cornell

I turned on my laptop this morning, skype is/was set to run and sign me in automatically. I downloaded my morning upgrades, and had skype running in the background, I mistakenly forgot to close it out before authorizing the new upgrades. I was instructed to restart the system, and now my skype will not run at all. I even removed it and reinstalled in through the Ubuntu Software Center to no avail. Is there some way to fix this please?

Apparently there is a problem with this version of Skype and the IA32 libs. If you downgrade the IA32 libs package skype will run again. See http://aroundtheweb.info/2010/09/resolve-skype-crashing-ia32-libs-issue-in-ubuntu-10-10-maverick-meerkat/ for more information.

I've reopened your bug and I'll try to get someone assigned to it shortly.

I already fixed this the day it stopped working by looking on the forums
for the command for the removal of the IA32 upgrade. As I kept getting
emails saying I wasn't posting things appropriately, and that it wasn't
a bug. Afterwards I just waited for the next set of upgrades to be
released for the quality queue, and my skype app. has been working just
fine since then, I assumed it was a temporary issues as I was running
the beta version of 10.10.
