Who cares about simutrans package for Ubuntu ?

Asked by benste

Hi, I was suprised by seeing simutrans in the Universe sources some time ago. And now i wondered what I could do to include the PAK 128, which is an additional grafic set.

As there seems to be no one who's responsible for this package, beside the automaticly added Debian Games group, i wondered whether it may be possible to learn how to build deb, upload one with pak 128 to a personal PPA, and maybe merge it if it's approved.

Awaiting someones answer :-)

Hi!

I maintain the package in Debian and only look at the Ubuntu bug tracker from time to time (I do not use Ubuntu myself).

I did not package pak128 yet as upstream plans to release a version under a free software license some time in the future. Once this is done I will try to package it for Debian (if I have time to spare). I have no plans to create a package before.

As far as I know, the non-free pak128 actually has no license at all, so redistribution by Debian and/or Ubuntu would not be allowed at all. So creating a package for it is probably not possible for legal reasons at all.

Regards,
Ansgar

thx for making me aware of this fact, so I'll have to focus on this point first - I'll see it as my little project to step into packaging - i hope this is ok for you

Hi again, I've registered to the simutrans Forum,
status is the following:

- pak128 in general is not yet licensed cause of missing connections to some japanese
- pak128.britain -> is publishe as open source under artistic license or so - is included in the source.

I'll start trying out my self to create a DEB into my PPA - but it will be one of the first ones I'll have done.

Looking forward to build a well done package which may be included in Lenny +1 and Lucid Lynx :-)
