Simple Scan cant OPEN a previously saved file

I want to be able to launch Simple Scan and OPEN a previously saved file, so I can add pages to it, or delete pages, or rotate the image, or export to another format, etc. I am currently using Simple Scan version 3.20.0 even though version 3.25.1is the latest. My repository hasn't included the latest version, and I dont know how to compile myself, since I am a New-bee.

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy simple-scan
