Simple Scan can no longer detect my Epson SX425W scanner-printer-copier

Asked by George Stephenson

Simple Scan (and all Ubuntu Scanner Programs) have stopped recognising my Epson SX425W Scanner-Printer-Copier.

I tried to up-date my computer to 14.04 LTS from 12.04 LTS. The computer went dead and would not upgrade. The download was deffective. I re-loaded 12.04 LTS and restored from Backup and all is well. EXCEPT - my SX425W is not recognised as a scnner anymore.

How do I get Simple Scan to work again? Downloads of replacement driver .deb packages did not work today. Error messages aborted the re-install.

Have you tried xsane?
Have you tried running either application with sudo?

Can you help with this problem?
