Je n'arrive pas à scanner depuis mon imprimante Canon PIXMA MG4250

Asked by Jean LAENGY

Merci d'avance...

Please provide more details about what is going wrong.
Just writing "it does not work" does not provide enough information that anybody can help further.

If you prefer help in French language, you might try http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/

Hi Manfred and sorry for the few details I gave you as a feedback.
As a matter of fact, when I wrote "it doesn't work", I meant 2 things:

1) After unpacking I could not extract the file. Hence I copied and pasted the command lines in the terminal and it would say "Invalid command" or "command could not be found" (in French)
2) On the SkanLite windows itself, the same old error message appeared: "Scan failure. No peripheric detected."

Noch vielen Dank, mein Freund. Ich hoffe dass wir eine Lösung finden können.
Schönes Tag u. Grüss aus Elsass !

The cause seems to be the failed commands.
Try again: open a terminal, "cd" to the directory where you downloaded the scanner package file.
Execute the tar command again by typing
tar xzf scangear<TAB>
Pressing the Tab key should expand the command and file name, and then press <Enter>
then execute the command
cd scangear<TAB>
./install.sh

If this fails, please select all output of the terminal window, copy it and paste into this question document tat we can see where the error might be.

Sorry...

Here's the result of what I got after I typed your suggested commands

jean@jean-X75VC:~$ '/home/jean/Bureau/scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb.tar.gz' tar xzf scangearbash: /home/jean/Bureau/scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb.tar.gz: Permission non accordée

Attaching images for Launchpad answers documents does not work. You would have to upload the image to some external image hosting site, and then post the link.

Try again:
open a terminal and issue these commands

cd ~/Bureau
tar xzf scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb.tar.gz
cd scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb
ls -l

then copy/paste all output into this question document as done before.

Here it is:

jean@jean-X75VC:~$ cd ~/Bureau
jean@jean-X75VC:~/Bureau$ tar xzf scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb.tar.gz
jean@jean-X75VC:~/Bureau$ cd scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb
jean@jean-X75VC:~/Bureau/scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb$ ls -l

Then I pressed ENTER and I got:

If you have that terminal window still open, then do

./install.sh

Or if you have already closed the window, open a new terminal window and execute

cd ~/Bureau
cd scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb
./install.sh

And finally report the outcome

That looks ok.
Now try the terminal commands

sane-find-scanner
scanimage -L

to check whether the scanner is now found by your system.

 It says that...

jean@jean-X75VC:~/Bureau/scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb$ sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

And then after pressing "ENTER", it adds this

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

sane-find-scanner correctly identifies your scanner. I do not know why scanimage -L now doesn't.

I think you best try proceeding with the next steps as listed in See http://robert.penz.name/532/a-howto-for-using-a-canon-pixma-mg4250-under-ubuntu - try the command scangearmp etc.etc.

After having proceeded to the commands as depicted in the related link it says the the command were not found, as follows:

sudo apt-get install libtiff4
$ : commande introuvable <--------- HERE
jean@jean-X75VC:~/Bureau/scangearmp-mg4200series-2.00-1-deb$ install.sh
install.sh : commande introuvable <-------- AND HERE

Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said :

1. The command with libtiff4 should not be necessary on your system because you have not got the error message "dependency not satisfied..."

2. It seems that you made some typo error during these attempts (the command ":" was not found!), but that does not matter

3. What do you get when you execute the command
scangearmp

4. Maybe you should reboot your computer once to make sure that all initializations for the new package have correctly run.

ok, well noted down...

When I execute the command, it says "command not found"
As for the reboot of the ystem, I have tried it for sure without any result.
SkanLite is searching for devices but it eventually says after a short while "No device found"...

So I dunno what to do next... :-(
