Have an R80 HP printer/scanner but can't scan. Help!

Asked by Mary Fadae

When I go to scan a page, the computer says "No scanner detected". I don't know what to do. I have an HP R80 printer. Can you tell me what to do?
Thank you.

Do you have HPLIP installed from Ubuntu Software Center?

I don't know. My stepson installed Ubuntu and I really don't know what he used. Sorry.

I will make the assumption he installed a supported release. If you have on left side a vertical bar with icons, go to it and see what is on it. If Ubuntu Software Center is, click on it. Put HPLIP in search box. Install HPLIP program. If Ubuntu Software Center is not on vertical bar, go to top icon and click on it. In the search box, put Ubuntu Software Center in. Then put HPLIP in search box. Then install HPLIP.
Need to know which release you are using. The way to find out is simple, Hold down these three keys CTRL ALT T for a second or two. A new window will come up. Into that window Copy and Paste the command below. Some people do not know what Copy and Paste mean. Google Copy and Paste if you don't know. Copy and Paste the results in the window here. Please try above. If I am confusing, please ask.

I installed HPLIP, then did CTRL-ALT-T but nothing happened except a
bunch of repeated black screens with the word terminal on them. I also
don't see any command in your message to copy and paste (or was it on
the screen after doing control, alt t?)

Copy and paste what command? I don't see anything

Have you checked to see if scanning works? You have a senitive keyboard. Hold any two of the three keys down, then press and release quickly, the third key. (I have done that many times) When you have one Terminal showing, copy and paste Actionparsnips command in #6. Very sorry, I did not include the command in my post #5.
