no scanner detected-network printer HP Officejet j4580

Asked by Marco Grecomoro

I installed a multifunction printer HP Officejet j4580 in my local network and it works perfectly for printing. Otherwise, when I try to open Simple Scan (and also XSane), it says no scanner is detected. I also found no possibility of device selection or to specify an address.

Is there a way to let these programs recognise the device?

Thanks
Marco Grecomoro

When I use the HP Officejet j4580 connected via USB, it prints and scans perfectly.

When I use my Canon PIXMA MG8140 multifunction, on one machine it's fine, on the other adjacent to it but connected via USB modem, it does not find scanner. No scanner detected, error in Simple Scan. ScanGearMP says "The package management system cannot be identified".

So now WHAT's wrong?

Yes, I fixed it using a different or alternative PPA, updated cache and reinstalled. Working perfectly now thank you.

Can you help with this problem?
