Brightness / Contrast settings don't change output?

Asked by Rik Shaw

I am testing Simplescan 3.10.2 (manually downloaded the .deb and installed) on Ubuntu 12.04 with a Canon LIDE 110 scanner. By default, the "photo" settings are much too dark, especially if trying to scan a color document (the white of paper is gray, for example). I am very excited to see settings for "Brightness and Contrast" now available, however, changing the sliders for them doen't have any noticeable change in the scan output. Is there something I am missing, or maybe a way to debug why my scanner is not responding to changes here?

In xsane, I am able to adjust the brightness and contrast levels with this scanner.

Thanks.

PS. I am happy to report this as a bug, but wanted to confirm I wasn't missing something obvious ("user error") first.
