Hello Helga, what is the scanner model and manufacter?

Does it plug in with a USB cable, or does it have wide head on the end of the cable that plugs into the back of your PC?

We will possibly need more info after this, but to provide more directions, we would need this first.

Also helpful would be your ubuntu version if known.

simple scan supports a lot of older scanners. give that a try.
if you want something a bit more elaborate, you can download xsane, which is also available.
both programs are available in the software center.

Hi Helga,

The response can be hit and miss. Most people here are volunteers.

Can you confirm that you have tried to access this with either the program "simple scan", or "xsane", as suggested by marcus?

If you have tried this, and it does not work, can you:

Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T, then paste these commands:

lsb_release -a
uname -a
lsusb
lsmod

then post the results back here -- you can cut and paste from the terminal with the edit menu, or by using right click.

This will pull some technical details from your system, and we can then have some more data to work with.

Hi Helga,

Your device (Mustek 1200) is reported as needing to have some firmware downloaded to make it function. There are some instructions here, which are supposed to work:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=154429

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Helga Uckermann for more information if necessary.
