Canon LiDE 100 scanner & Ubuntu 11.10 do not function together.

I have a self built Computer, Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz × 2 Processor, 5.9 GiB memory, GeForce 8500 GT/PCI/SSE2 graphics, 2 1 TB Disks & 1 200 GB disk, 2 DVD RW optical drives, Epson C-120 Printer & the CanonLiDE 100 USB Scanner.
