Hello there,

sorry for the late reply, I am cleaning up this section and came across your question...

Unfortunately Simple Scan cannot do much about what scanners work with it and what scanners do not. The scanner drivers are completely separate from Simple Scan. Simple Scan is a collection of windows and buttons to allow the user to ask the scanner drivers to do some scanning. If the scanner driver fails to do that it is almost certainly not the problem that Simple Scan "asked wrong" but a problem with the scanner driver itself.

Basically you need to get your scanner working with SANE/libsane. Updating to the latest Ubuntu with the latest libsane might help, but possibly even the latest libsane does not support your scanner. In that case only waiting or buying another scanner (inform yourself what scanners work with libsane beforehand!) will help!

Best Regards
Michael

Thanks for your reply. The problem only began with Ubuntu 11.04. Simple
scan worked fine up till then. Problem persists with 11.10. As my Epson
all-in-one printer/scanner was about 3 or 4 years old I decided to buy a
new one, EPSON PX720WD, have downloaded all the relevant drivers from
Epson but still can't get it to work. Will have to do with using Windows 7
Thanks
Brian

I am sorry to hear that. Perhaps using older Ubuntu releases is a workaround or you could try to get help from the SANE community. Best Regards, Michael
