Hello,

I have a Packard Bell scanner that I managed to install in Ubuntu. This is an old scanner. Scanners are not easy to configure as you have to download the driver and install it in Sane.

Check on the Internet for Linux scanners and Printers.

There are lots of drivers for Brother printers and scanners in the Synaptic Package Manager. This is the easiest solution.

Regards,

Allan :)

In case the Hardware Support list is too confusing:

A safe bet are Hewlett-Packard multifunction devices. Look for the Photosmart series.

Photosmart C5280 and C5380 both worked straightaway when plugged in - print, scan, envelopes, photos, print to CD. Drivers are already in the kernel, supplied by HP and there is nothing to install.

Ok. Great answer-- all is appreciated. it is so frutrating not being able to use what I have in ubuntu. My PC tech has recommended this to me even before this newer ubuntu sysytem was set up for me.. I'll have to work toward a new multifunction uinit. for now I 'll have to deal with the current HP set in the windows system.. a hassle 'cause it isn't easy to cary docs back and forth.. oh well. thanks again.
