Only one computer finds network scanner

Asked by Charles Whittington

I have several machines, some wireless, on one 192.168.2.0/24 network. I have simple scan installed on two; one (wired) finds the network scanner (hp6310) on 192.168.2.95 and works perfectly; the other (wireless) doesn't reports no scanner to be found. nmap finds the scanner on both computers:

Nmap scan report for 192.168.2.95
Host is up (0.027s latency).
Not shown: 998 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http

What conditions need to be fulfilled for SimpleScan to find a network scanner?

Thanks

Charles Whittington

Make sure you have the latest HPLIP from the HPLIP site, it might help

Finds scanner: Ubuntu 10.10 with HPLIP V 3.10.6-1ubuntu10.2
Doesn't find scanner: Ubuntu 10.04 with HPLIP V 3.10.2-2ubuntu2.2 (says it's the latest)

I will try upgrading the 10.04 to 10.10 and report.

Thanks

You don't have to, just grab HPLIP from the HPLIP site....

I'm a bit wet about machines I don't use myself (the one in question is my wife's!) and stick to released ubuntu packages!!

I need to upgrade it anyway. Thanks - I'll post whether that fixes it - it would be odd if it didn't!
